Welcome

The University of Gloucestershire United Nations Association (UoG-UNA) is an exciting new student society which was established in November 2005. The United Nations Association has existed since 1946, and is dedicated to campaigning and educating to help turn the ideas of the UN into reality. The university society will be affiliated to the student division of the UNA (the UNYSA) and will organize a range of activities aimed at direct student participation in matters of local, national and international importance. As the UNYSA puts it:

"[Student] participation is essential in creating a more peaceful and just world and we need people like you to make it real. This is a critical time to be involved in the work of the United Nations. We must grab this opportunity to lobby and push for a stronger UN and demand change" (Getting Active, UNYSA).

Objectives

  1. To promote awareness of the role of the United Nations and to offer a critical insight into UN policy to the student body;
  2. To offer a platform for students to air their views on UN related affairs and lobby the government on behalf of students on key international and local issues;
  3. To pursue notions of peace, justice and equality in issues of regional, national and international interest through social discourse, debate and political action.
